AV Dawson secures long-term contract from British Gypsum

LBR Staff Writer Published 28 June 2018

UK-based freight logistics firm AV Dawson has secured a long-term contract from Saint Gobain group subsidiary British Gypsum.

As part of a multi-million pound deal, AV Dawson will import materials for blue-chip manufacturer, via its site in Middlesbrough.

Saint Gobain senior procurement manager Kevin Flinton said: : “We awarded this new contract to AV Dawson because of the flexible and environmentally efficient solution they’ve provided to our business.”

British Gypsum is importing a product using in the manufacturing of plaster and plasterboard through AV Dawson’s Teesside freight terminal based on Riverside Park in Middlesbrough.

The products will reach to AV Dawson’s berth for unloading into storage, and later will be loaded into trains for daily deliveries to the East Midlands area

To support the new contract, AV Dawson will invest more than £2m in new facilities and plant equipment, as well employ ten new people.

Based on the southern end of the firm’s site, the £1m purpose-built canopy will be used for storing the product.

A direct rail link will go into the canopy, enabling the product to be loaded directly onto trains, without adverse weather conditions halting operations.

It will also help to keep the product dry to reduce the amount of energy needed to remove moisture from the product when it reaches the factory.

AV Dawson managing director Gary Dawson said: “Using both our port and rail facilities really makes the most of the capabilities of our terminal. Our ships agency, Cockfield Knight, which is part of the AV Dawson group, has also supported the operation, enabling us to provide a very comprehensive service offering.

“With the addition of the new rail canopy, which we’ve invested in to provide British Gypsum with a purpose-built storage and loading solution, we have developed an environmentally efficient solution that enables our customer to reduce its energy and CO2.”
