LBR Staff Writer Published 05 February 2018

Descartes Systems has acquired US-based cloud-based solutions provider Aljex Software for $32.4m.

Based in Somerville of New Jersey, Aljex Software is a cloud-based provider of back-office transportation management solutions for freight brokers and transportation providers.

Aljex’s solutions help to automate business processes and design electronic documents to carry out transportation activities.

The company’s product portfolio includes, freight broker software, LTL software, intermodal software, carrier software and Aljex TV wall.

Aljex’s LTL software helps to auto-retrieve cost routing and backup documentation. It can also be used in contract management.

The firm will support customers to manage the lifecycle of a shipment from order creation through execution, including real-time tracking with connectivity to the Descartes MacroPoint network.

Aljex CEO Tom Heine said: "Aljex helps solve the unique problems faced by freight brokers and transportation providers in this demanding environment.  These solutions can also be utilized by large fleet operators looking to broker their own excess capacity and improve truck utilization."

Descartes' CEO Edward J. Ryan said: "Descartes has worked with Aljex for a number of years to provide end-to-end solutions for the freight broker community in North America.”

In May 2017, Descartes acquired US-based e-commerce multi-carrier parcel shipping solutions provider ShipRush.

Based in Seattle of Washington, ShipRush offers e-commerce multi-carrier parcel shipping solutions for small-to medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

ShipRush will enable e-commerce SMBs and omni-channel retailers to execute parcel shipments for last-mile delivery to customers.

Based in Waterloo of Ontario, Descartes provides on-demand and software-as-a-service solutions to improve productivity, performance and security of logistics-intensive businesses.
