Europa Worldwide buys Belgium’s Continental Cargo Carriers

LBR Staff Writer Published 04 June 2018

Europa Worldwide Group has acquired Belgium-based specialist part and full load operator, Continental Cargo Carriers (CCC), for an undisclosed sum.

Based in Oostende, CCC has been providing trailer freight services to its customers since 1983.

Currently, CCC operates a fleet of 270 trailers and manages 4000m² of warehouse space. With over 100 employees, the company provides services to the customers in Belgium, the UK and the Czech Republic.

The Belgian firm’s staff will work along with Europa’s 650 staff across its 13 sites in the UK and Hong Kong to achieve a turnover of £400m in the next four years.

CCC’s Etienne Lefevere said: “We believe becoming part of Europa Worldwide Group perfectly fits in CCC NV’s strategy to further develop its successful partloads service, implement top notch IT solutions to support further growth and provide the best possible service to our long-standing customer base.”

Recently, Europa announced that its turnover increased by 24% to £144m for the fiscal year ended 31 December 2017.

During the same period, the firm’s net profit increased to £3.2m from £1.1m in 2016 and Net assets increased to £6.8m compared to £3.7m in the preceding financial year.

Europa Worldwide Group managing director Andrew Baxter said: “This acquisition is not about Europa expanding outside of the UK market. It is about strengthening our offering to and from the UK.

“The acquisition will not affect any of our groupage partnerships. Even in Belgium our groupage operation will remain unchanged and our aspiration is for all of CCC’s team to stay in place.”

Europa offers road, air and sea, as well as warehouse services to its customers in the UK, Belgium, Czech Republic and Hong Kong.

The firm’s warehouse services include order fulfillment, container loading and unloading, and value-added and pre-retail services. It manages advanced warehouse facilities in Birmingham, Dartford and Northampton.
