LBR Staff Writer Published 16 January 2018

Logistics firm Kuehne + Nagel has collaborated with Singapore-based investment company Temasek to launch a joint venture (JV) for investments in logistics technology start-ups.

The companies have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to create a JV for investing in early stage companies developing advanced technology for logistics and supply chains.

The JV will focus on early stage companies engaged in developing technologies and services that can transform traditional business models in logistics.

It will support start-ups focusing mainly on the areas of big data and predictive analytics, artificial intelligence, block chain and robotics.

Kuehne + Nagel International chairman Dr Joerg Wolle said: “This joint venture will be able to accelerate the transformation of the logistics industry.

“The cooperation combines Temasek’s focused and long-term oriented investment strategy and expertise, with Kuehne + Nagel’s global logistics network and know-how, creating a win-win situation for all parties.”

Temasek Europe and South East Asia president and head Tan Chong said: “The opportunities presented by the growth of technology and its application across sectors have been an increasing focus for Temasek.”

Temasek invests in different industries, including telecommunications, media and technology,  transportation and industrials, consumer and real estate, life sciences, agriculture and energy and  resources

In December 2017, Kuehne + Nagel opened its first regional Logistics Control Centre for Integrated Logistics in North Asia Pacific.

The Logistics Control Centre (LCC) in Shanghai offers a range of managed services to complete customers orders across international supply chains.
