Marken buys Taiwan’s logistics firm Touchdown International

UPS subsidiary Marken has acquired Taiwan-based specialty logistics firm Touchdown International for an undisclosed sum.

Established in 2013, Touchdown is specialized in providing clinical trials logistics services to the customers.

Touchdown offers courier services for biological samples, clinical trial drug shipments, API and other clinical trial materials. 

The acquisition will allow Marken to expand its services to the customers in the life sciences industry of Asia Pacific region.

In 2015, Marken signed an exclusive sales and agency contract with Touchdown to offers its solutions to the local pharmaceutical and life science clients. 

As per terms of the deal, the acquired business will be named Marken Taiwan with its headquarters in Taipei.

Touchdown founder and CEO Mike Wu will continue to serve the business in the role of general manager.

Mike said: “We have worked hard to establish Marken’s brand locally in Taiwan. We respect Marken’s approach to clinical trial logistics and are proud to introduce their services to our local life science clients. We are very much looking forward to becoming part of the Marken family.”

Marken APAC vice president Michael Culme-Seymour said: With the acquisition of Touchdown, we now have a solid footprint in Taiwan, whose pharma market is expected to grow to $84bn by 2020.”

In November 2016, UPS acquired Marken, which provides supply chain solutions to the life sciences industry.

Marken offers services to pharmaceutical companies, manufacturers and contract research organizations engaged in all phases of the clinical trials process.
