LBR Staff Writer Published 11 October 2017

Rhenus Group has opened a new logistics facility in Vilnius of Lithuania, in a bid to expand its operations in the Baltic region.

The new warehouse features 12,000m² of space, as well as 2,000m² of space for office premises.

Rhenus Group’s Eastern European organization provides national and international services across the Europe, Ukraine and commonwealth of independent states.

Rhenus provides various logistics services, including contract logistics, freight logistics, port logistics and public transport.

With around 28,000 employees, Rhenus has business sites at about 580 locations across the globe.

Rhenus Svoris managing director Arunas Bertašius said: “For us, Lithuania is a tiger economy. The expansion of the Rhenus Group activities opens the way into international markets for the national economy and will strengthen the logistics location of Lithuania.”

“The decision to build a new logistics centre was made in order to optimize the management of warehouses and reduce operating costs. Capacities of the company’s warehouses located at different locations were moved into one modern and automated centre.”

Separately, Rhenus Group acquired RCS Logistics, which operates 32,515m² of logistics facility in Corby.

The acquired business will be operated as a subsidiary of Rhenus UK that operates 12 sites across the country.

The 135 employees of RCS Logistics will continue to provide services to support the expansion of the business.
