Swisslog to deploy CarryPick solution at Von Maur’s US facility

LBR Staff Writer Published 11 April 2018

Swisslog Logistics Automation has secured an order to deploy CarryPick automated storage and picking system at Von Maur’s e-commerce fulfillment center in Davenport, Iowa, US.

Von Maur is a department store chain, which operates 32 stores in 15 US states, including Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma and Wisconsin.

CarryPick solution, which is designed for multi-channel intralogistics, is a mobile system for flexible and scalable e-commerce fulfillment.

CarryPick’s automated guided vehicles (AGVs) will supply mobile racks to supply workstations for picking, enabling to reduce travel path for workers.

The goods-to-person solution is supported by Swisslog’s Synchronized Intelligence (SynQ) warehouse management software.

The service-oriented software platform synchronizes the performance of automated and manual warehouse equipment.

It encompasses warehouse management (WMS), material flow (MFC/WCS), and automation control systems (ACS) functionality, along with various business tools to enhance warehouse performance.

CarryPick solution holds capacity to add racks and AGVs rapidly as storage volume increases. It also helps in easy movement of equipment from one warehouse to another.

The standard mobile racks can be customized to be used for different sized and shaped articles, which is more useful for the fashion industry.

Von Maur e-commerce director Holly Danler said: “We explored all options and determined that Carry Pick was the clear winner.  Continuing with goods-to-person technology is a priority for us.”

Swisslog Logistics Automation Americas president Markus Schmidt said: “We are very pleased to be supporting the rapidly growing e-commerce business of a great American brand like Von Maur.

“Many retail and e-commerce companies are rapidly adopting goods-to-person automation and turning to Swisslog because of our unique automated systems and software, as well as our vast experience implementing and supporting those systems.”

Swisslog, which is a subsidiary of Kuka Group, provides advanced automation solutions for hospitals, warehouses and distribution centers.
